Funded under a Biden-Harris clean energy initiative and managed by WE ACT for Environmental Justice, the hub was created from scratch. The goal was clear: build a website that acts as a gateway to clean energy education, support, and actionable resources for communities across Manhattan. Prior to this, there was no unified platform tailored specifically to that audience.
The challenge was to convert complex, technical content into a simple and accessible sign-up process. Users needed to fill out a form, share info about property type and energy interests, and the system needed to route them to the right support—whether that meant energy efficiency, electrification, workforce training, or solar options. The platform also had to serve a wide range of users: homeowners, tenants, nonprofits, small commercial, and multifamily property managers. The site had to build trust, capture qualified leads, and ensure follow-through without overwhelming users with jargon or friction.
We focused on three strategic moves that made the hub functional and user-friendly.
The Manhattan Clean Energy Hub now serves as the primary digital entry point for thousands of Manhattan-based users and organizations seeking clean energy support. Users can fill out a single form, get connected to programs, trainings, or incentives, and take steps they previously did not know how to. The platform reduced friction, improved outreach capacity, and positioned the hub as a credible resource in the clean energy space.
